Tolkien 2024

* "I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

"It was Sam's first view of a battle of Men against Men, and he did not like it much. He was glad that he could not see the dead face. He wondered what the man's name was and where he came from; and if he was really evil of heart, or what lies or threats had led him on the long march from his home; and if he would rather have stayed there in peace."
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

(So appropriate in the divided times in which I live, when I do not understand the thoughts and decisions of many of my fellow humans, both of my faith and of my country.)

eucatastrophe
noun rare a sudden and favorable resolution of events in a story; a happy ending.
